THE HOUSE:...First African-American As Speaker?...Well, One Is Going For It...

By EDUARDO PAZ-MARTINEZ

McALLEN, Texas | So, who's next? That chase for a new Speaker of the House of Representatives isn't quite running out of candidates, but it has seen three dolts fall by the wayside. Republicans are adrift.

Now comes a greenhorn representative by the name of Byron Donalds to say he is the one to lead.

Well, he can say it till he turns white, but African-American Donalds is only dreaming. He's only been there since 2021, barely two years! Well, he was a state rep in the Sunshine State prior to that, only who cares what a state rep does in Florida?

This from floridapolitics.com [ After U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan lost three votes for Speaker, U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds is running to be the Republican conference nominee.

Aides for the 44-year-old Naples Republican confirmed to Florida Politics he will seek the support in a closed-door GOP conference vote. He will face Majority Whip Tom Emmer and U.S. Reps. Austin Scott of Georgia, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Mark Green of Tennessee.

A vote could take place as soon as Monday. ]

Donalds is a full-blown supporter of Donald Trump, and now Trump has endorsed his bid for speaker.

That right there will sink his campaign.

The two previous candidates - Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan - were also huge Trump supporters. The third one - Kevin McCarthy - was ousted by the right-wingers in the House.

Republicans in essence rejected all of them...

  1. National Security at risk, Veterans and active-Duty Soldiers are in trouble if these clowns formerly known as Repubs can't act to form a unity vote, then we have what 30 days before the Govt closes down, then of course Tuberville and his attack on Democracy, please Democrats end the insanity.

    1. I would agree with that, commenter. I really cannot think of a Black man in any sort of power with the Republicans. Democrats have several, including the Veep...and a former pres in Obama...

    1. Dont forget Bush Jr inherited a budget surplus and growing economy when he got appointed President in 2000 and left office with USA losing 800,000 jobs a month and mired in 2 losing, overseas wars. Trump inherited a record-breaking economy that had grown 5.5 straight years, with stock market highs, unemployment lows, and low inflation. Trump left office with a record worst 1.54% GDP rate, USA down 3 million jobs, the entire country collecting govmt stimulus checks, and then... Jan 6th. NEVER discuss the GOP w/ out mentioning their abysmal economic performance the last 2x they had the White House. 23 yrs (qtr century) of total economic failure. Too many Dems focus on the social issues, but Conservatives only care about money and business. And the Conservative's economic record both here and in Britain is God-awful. Brexit ruined UK's economy for next decade.

  6. The Republican House majority shows their nature and the problem with it. It's just about power so inevitably they turn on each other. If it was about democracy or making democracy work, they would be able to find compromises, but they can't. Really, what they want is chaos so that they can say that democracy doesn't work and that what is needed is a dictator.

The Republicans haven't offered any policies to benefit ordinary Americans in 40 years. Just tax cuts for the wealthy to drive up the National Debt and more and more and more guns. Oh yeah, and outlawed abortion, removed books from libraries, promoted anti-gay rhetoric, passed voter suppression laws oh and yes, they still want to shut down the government again next month.
