THE GRILLING SEASON:...Biden Nuked In Network Interview...Next?...Time To Drop Trump's Rump On The Hot Coals...Acid Test Here For The Republican? ...He'd Never Sit For It...He'll Steam...And Wait On Calls For Chicken...Americans Will Set The Table...

By DUARDO PAZ-MARTINEZ

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas |...Okay, now go grill the other guy. We're waiting on nasty Hurricane Beryl to drop in on our local island paradise and cooling off a bit, only, well, our national politics are also white-hot.

Embattled Democrat Joe Biden got the ABC News treatment last night, fielding more than enough questions about his health, his plans and his advanced age. It was a grilling on network TV, of the like we have not seen this election season.

The president stays in the picture.

Biden let go his anger at being forced out of the presidential race just because he had a bad first debate with Republican reptilian Donald J. Trump last week.

"I'm staying in the race," Biden said, repeating what he'd earlier in the day told attendees at a rally in Wisconsin. Maybe if God came down and asked him to quit, Biden explained.

God's not coming.

The interview served a purpose, I suppose. It fell into that annoying duty we in the Big-Time press used to call the "Folo." following the rising angle a story is taking. Go with it until the over is over. Tomorrow will bring yet another angle, perhaps the one in which calls become loud enough to demand Trump sit down with network TV, not friendly FOX News, and himself take the heat. Trump won't do, but that will be another story.

The campaigns roll onward to cash-it day in November.

Whether Joe Biden decides to leave the race is a nagging question, but we wonder why the test he's being put to is also not being faced by the certain Republican nominee. No, that party gets the bullhorn and not the chair in front of a hard-quizzing interrogator.

Trump couldn't handle the truth, as Jack Nicholson might say about here.

Biden is 81 years old and paying the price for aging. Trump is 78 and not seeing that blow up on his fat face.

Something's wrong with this picture. Grilling makes no concessions. Meat will burn to your pleasure.

Joe Biden is being the transparent presidential candidate.

Trump doesn't have the brains or balls to do what Joe Biden did last night in sitting down to field tough questions from interviewer George Stephanopoulos while fighting for his vision of the nation.

Artful Dodger Trump has never fought for America, as we all know...

  2. Donald Trump must destroy the rule of law or die in prison. Allowing him to be president cannot mean anything other than the end of American democracy.

Only 4 presidents were impeached or resigned.
Only 1 president has been criminally indicted and is a convicted felon.
Only 1 president has done all 4 - Donald Trump

  7. Right-wing authoritarians who want to control women's bodies and even take away our voting rights is the primary danger now. Look for candidates that are middle of the road. There are Republicans out there that are like that. I understand Republicans wanting to support Republicans so they feel they need to vote for Trump but if he takes office, he is now talking about getting rid of elections altogether. You will never get to vote again. Wait until a better candidate comes forward in 2028. In the meantime, Biden will continue to bring jobs to the US and increase your 401ks and make sure no one takes away your Social Security and Medicare. Or you can elect a Madman.

  8. With Trump, say bye bye to Social Security, Affordable Healthcare, all things that are pro-environment, and for you gun owners, say bye bye to your guns. Dictators know how dicey it is to quell uprisings by an armed population. Mark my words, even the most adamant of Trump supporters will experience the biggest regret of their sad lives. Am I trying to stoke fear here? If that's what it takes, I am.

  9. It is good people are holding. I saw the interview and I was happy with Biden. George could not handle his reality answers that his daily workload proves he can do it. I seem to remember people complaining Reagan had short days and spent too much time on his ranch. His wive was consulting psychics. It is not how many hours you work in a day; it is how well you do the job during the hours you work.

    2. Good catch on Nancy Reagan and the psychic. Thanks for that. It was a big story for a few weeks back in the mid-'80s. I read somewhere sometime back that Donald Trump reads his daily horoscope first thing every morning...

  11. When asked during the debate about climate change, Trump responded that he delivered clean air and water. Trump took us out of the Paris accords and had no clue as to what it was about. He did the same with covid -- proposing bleach and hydroxychloroquine. We can't have a President making important decisions based on massive ignorance. Biden may suffer from aging. Trump suffers from lazy stupidity. I 'd take the aging any day.

  17. As a public speaker who had a very bad day at an extremely important conference when I was decades younger than Biden, I understand what happened. I was exhausted from jet lag and not feeling great after weeks of travel. I blew it and was embarrassed, but I recovered, and it did not affect my career. Watching the debate, I remembered what happened to me, and was able to focus on Trump's poor demeanor and his lies. He is the one the media should be dragging over the coals.

  23. The "press" and I mean ALL of the press, not just the right-wing press, are simply overstating the whole "Biden is old" thing and understating the whole "Trump is a criminal" thing for their own purposes. They are more interested in ratings and clicks than in actually saying there is a moral and ethical difference, a huge one, between these two men. Biden is old...but so is Trump (he is 78 after all). There is only ONE of these two men who lies constantly, with little pushback from the press (and certainly NONE from the "moderators" at that debate)...and it is NOT BIDEN. There is only ONE who changes history to take credit for things he wasn't even in office for...and it is NOT BIDEN. There is only ONE that is not a convicted felon, or sexual assaulter...and it is NOT BIDEN. The media, and ALL of the media need to take a long look at themselves and acknowledge their starring role in Trump's "ascendancy" in politics...because THEY are the first ones he conned when he came on the scene in 2015.

If Biden drops out and Kamala Harris becomes the nominee, the focus would shift to a Democratic Party that is moving to a new generation of leadership with a plan in place, with experience as vice president and looking to connect to communities that were displeased with the Biden administration.
