Hey, Maria, It's Hot For Old People Too...

STAFF REPORT

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas | Three days until July. You think it's been hot lately? Wait until July gets here, and then wait until August beats it. Vegas odds are real good the Rio Grande Valley will see a temperature reading of 115 degrees during any one or two or three days of those cruel months. If it seems like we're harping on the heat, well, it's more than seems; it's being done.

Summer's killing heat is here, 104 today in the Upper Valley.

Hundred-degree readings through July 6th.

The National Weather Service is predicting a full-bore chimney blast across Texas and Oklahoma, with the ceaseless heat extending into the Southern states by the end of the week. Being blamed is a "heat dome" moving north and northeast from Mexico.

We know, we know. It's summer in Texas and its blistering. Nothing new there. It's been like that every summer for years.

That's true, but one deals with the here & now, not the past.

Those years were equally hot, but (1.) we were younger then and didn't care or (2.) we were old and could only marvel at how life speeds to its fiery end.

Take that nap on the couch this afternoon. It'll do your body good, and it'll allow you to not worry about the 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM scorch. And don't worry about stray cats and dogs out there. They know what to do.

Of course, look forward to the Fall and what we know as Winter in the subtropical RGV.

It's all you can do...
