She's In!...Republican Mayra Flores Makes It Official...

By EDUARDO PAZ-MARTINEZ

McALLEN, Texas - Not that it was unexpected, but confident (some say pushyRepublican Mayra Flores this morning announced her candidacy for the 34th Congressional District seat presently held by Democrat Vicente Gonzalez.

She wrote this on her Facebook: [ I am excited to announce that I am officially running for Congress in Texas’ 34th District!

We made history last year, but there’s still work to be done here in South Texas. Joe Biden’s policies are running our country into the ground, and people in our communities are suffering. We have an open border controlled by the cartels who are trafficking dangerous drugs and vulnerable children. Inflation remains high, costing our families more in everyday expenses like food and clothing. And poisonous leftist ideologies are being relentlessly pushed on our young people.

I’m running to help restore the American Dream, secure our borders, and stand strong on our values of God, Family & Country. Join me today! ]

Geez, Louise. For a second there, we took your candidacy seriously. Love your energy and headstrong style, but are you going to merely regurgitate all you said during the last election? Suggestion: Lose those stuck-in-yesteryear party "handlers" and be yourself.

What about the price of gasoline, Mayra? It's down. Been down.

The price of eggs and other daily grocery store items? They're down.

Show the voters growth and progress in your promise of better representation in Congress. That "Same Ol', Same Ol' " Mayra was defeated in last November's election.

The glib Miss Flores can count on incumbent Gonzalez being there for the fight, but she will have Republicans opposing her in the party primary. Could one of them be the formidable former Cameron County Judge and Texas Secretary State (appointed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott) Carlos Cascos of Brownsville?

Sho' enuff could be.

Cascos recently noted in a comment submitted to The McAllen Sun that he had not heard of a public debate between Miss Flores and Congressman Gonzalez, perhaps hinting that he'd demand one and, presumably, show her how a winning candidate articulates ideas.

We'll see about all that, but, for now, well, Miss Flores is back in the ring...
